Sports jerseys are a main component of any sports man cave. Displaying your old sports jersey or the jerseys of your favorite teams doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, it can be done quickly, easily, and inexpensively. If you are unsure how to hang a jersey on the wall, here are 3 easy ways for you to consider listed in order from simplest and least expensive to most involved and most expensive.
All 3 methods can be done without nails, hammers, screws, or drills. The first method is a DIY approach using Command Hooks. The second two are traditionally done with nails and may even come with hardware and instructions for mounting with nails. However, as you will see, you have the option to substitute out the nails and hang up your jersey without causing any damage to the wall.
1. DIY Jersey Hanger
Time: 2 minutes
This DIY method for hanging a jersey on the wall is simple, but it works and you can do it in 2 minutes. While you can find a stud, hammer in a nail, and then hang the jersey on a wire hanger; we recommend following the steps below for the best results.
- Find the spot on the wall where you want to hang your jersey and mark it with a pencil.
- Place a Command Strip Hook on the wall so that the hook lines up with the pencil mark. Using a Command Strip Hook means that you don’t have to put any holes in the wall and you can easily move the jersey to a new location later. If you are putting the hook on a concrete wall, you can sub out the tape that comes with the hooks for Scotch-Mount Extreme Double-Sided Mounting Tape.
- Put your jersey on a hanger. Wire hangers work great for t-shirts, but don’t hold up over time to the weight of a jersey. Basic white plastic hangers will work just fine or you could go for a more heavy duty non-slip velvet hanger to keep the jersey from sliding around.
- Optional: Turn the hanger upside down to hide more of the hanger as shown in the picture of the Fred Jackson Buffalo Bills jersey.
2. Use a JerseyGenius Hanging System
Time: 10 minutes
No matter what kind of jersey you have, JerseyGenius adjusts to fit any style. Here are the basic instructions for hanging up a football jersey or any jersey with sleeves. If you are trying to figure out how to hang a basketball jersey up on the wall of your basketball man cave, it can do that too. The instructions for basketball jerseys are slightly different, but all instructions are included with the JerseyGenius.
- Lay the jersey down flat on a table.
- Place the shoulder bracket over the neck hole.
- Put the first two pivot joints into place with the straight side facing upwards.
- Add additional pivot joints to match the shape of the jersey.
- Slide the jersey onto the assembled JerseyGenius one arm at a time through the neck hole.
If you are putting the hook on a concrete wall, you can sub out the tape the comes with the hooks for Scotch-Mount Extreme Double-Sided Mounting Tape.
- Position JerseyGenius so that horizontal bar on backside of shoulder bracket rests on top of the hook.
3. Frame the Jersey in a Shadow Box
Time: 10 minutes
If you have ever tried to mount a jersey inside of a shadow box, you know how difficult it can be to get it to sit exactly right. That’s why we recommend a case that comes with a built in hanger that allows you to simply hang your jersey up inside the frame.
Once the jersey is in place, simply hang the frame on the wall like you would any other piece of art. The large size Command Picture Hanging Strips are perfect to hang a case of this size.
Conclusion
Whether you’re a baseball, basketball, football, hockey, or soccer fan, displaying the jerseys of your favorite team is a great way to show your fandom and improve the look of your man cave. When it comes to hanging jerseys on the wall, you have options. The three ways we laid out for you all take 10 minutes or less and cost under $100 – and may not even cost anything if you have some common household items laying around.
