Guitars Hanging On A Wall

How to Hang A Guitar On The Wall Without Drilling

There are many reasons why you can’t drill into your walls to hang your guitar! Some of them could be you don’t want to get in trouble with your landlord or parents, or you change your mind often and don’t want to turn your wall into swiss cheese! Or you might even have to drill into a brick or block wall which is never a good time.

Trust me changing out the drywall is not a good idea!

In this quick post, we will give you an option to hang your guitar or guitars on the wall without drilling into your wall!

Read on below to find out how!

How To Hang A Guitar On The Wall Without Drilling

This option doesn’t necessarily allow you to hang your guitar from the wall but it gives you the same effect. This method doesn’t take too much construction skills but it will take a bit of time and you will have to go to the home improvement store to get some of the materials.

Here are step-by-step instructions for creating your own wall stud to hang your guitar:

Here are the materials you will need:

Installation steps:

  1. Prior to going to the store makes sure you take exact measurements from floor to ceiling.(Don’t go to the store first without reading the entire instructions as I do!)
  2. Purchase the 2×4 from the home improvement store. This piece of wood will need to be cut to the dimensions you took from the floor to ceiling minus 3.7 inches. Lowes and Home Depot can do this for you with no problem and for free! Saving you a lot of money from buying a saw for one project. *
  3. Place the upper and lower brackets of the Labrico system onto the wood post.
  4. Lift the post into place. Tighten or loosen the adjusting screw of the Labrico system as needed.
  5. Use a level to make sure that the post is vertically straight.

*When you are at the store be sure to get them to cut it down for you. The cutting machine will be located in the lumber department and you will have to ask someone to do it for you. Be sure you are clear with your instructions on how much to cut because they are typically very busy and rush around.

Guitars Hanging
Unique way to drill holes through the 2×4 and then place wooden dowels through it. Too many guitars but it gives you some cool options if you want to hang a lot of stuff.

And now you have a new wall stud! You can do whatever you want to it but depending on the height of your ceiling you can hang probably two guitars unless you get a couple of 2×4 systems going and create a rack for multiple guitars. When you combine multiple posts, the possibilities are endless. Simply attach wood cross members across two posts and you can have a whole new wall in no time.

What’s great about this solution is that you can adjust where you want the studs whenever you want. So updates to your rooms are easy! If you are really ambitious you could even put plywood on the studs to create a fake wall hang your guitars on there and then put LED lights behind the wall to create a cool effect. But I’m just dreaming here!

Another cool feature is now you can hang a bunch of other things off of this stud as well!

For more ideas and detailed instructions, check out this video below.  You can also see Labrico’s webpage for more ideas here. Just be aware that it is a Japanese site but all you have to do is hit translate and you can see some English. They have some really genius ideas on there.

Guitar Mount

Once you have your stud up you will need a guitar wall mount and that is an easy purchase from Amazon. String Swing has a guitar wall mount available. It can easily hold any type of guitar you can think of.

Since you will be using the new wood stud you installed you can easily use the two wood screws to screw in the mount and you are ready to go.

The link to the mount is below!

Guitar Stand

While we don’t have too many other options to provide this guitar stand offers a way to get a similar vibe to a hanging wall guitar. This stand hangs the guitar by its neck and lifts it up off the ground.

How to hang a guitar on the wall without drilling – Wrap Up!

We understand there are not many options at this point and that can be frustrating.

But at this time we can say please don’t use any temporary adhesives to hang your guitar up. It seems like a good solution but they simply won’t hold as some people come to find out.

Also, stay away from permanent adhesives because removing those may end up costing you a lot more money than filling holes in your drywall!

We will revisit this page to determine if any more great solutions pop up! If you have anything that works please feel free to email us!

Here are some more common questions when hanging your guitar.

How High To Hang Guitar On Wall

Guitars on Wall

This is very subjective but vertically we typically recommend placing the pickguard about 1 to 2 feet higher than the middle of your wall. This will give the guitar a commanding presence in the room and will look really cool. You can hang your next guitar close to it but give it 1 to 2 feet of spacing from the outside of the guitar.

Be sure to measure this out prior to drilling any holes because you don’t want the guitars to knock into each other and also look properly spaced in the room.

For the horizontal location, we recommend having it centered if you only have one guitar. If you want to hang a picture and a guitar then place the picture on half of the wall and the guitar on the other.

If you can line an entire wall with your guitars then that will look amazing!
