The GoSports Kubb Viking Clash Toss Game comes with everything you need to transport and play the game. So nothing else is needed once you order, except maybe for some friends! The wooden pieces are well-made but when we played one of the wooden dowels started to splinter. Now this wasn’t a big deal to me because I have already made a set before and I had many of the pieces to splinter. So to consider the fact that only one dowel splintered over time is pretty good.

The game can be played by two teams and a total of 12 people, and the objective is to knock down all of the opponent’s kubbs and then knock down the king to win the game. Another great feature of the GoSports Kubb Viking Clash Toss Game is its portability. The game comes with a handy carrying case that makes it easy to transport and store the game when not in use. This makes it perfect for camping trips, beach outings, and other outdoor adventures. The bag is great for what it is but don’t expect it to last very long. While it hasn’t broken for us the material for it isn’t very strong. I expect to replace it within a year or two but it will depend on how I treat it. I would not leave it outside because the elements will reduce its lifetime.
My favorite aspects of this set by Gosports are the Viking emblems laser engravings, the larger 2-inch dowels, and the nice sanded wood.
- The laser engravings consist of Viking symbols on each block. The king has a Viking helmet, and the little blocks are either of a castle or a ship. Only one side has the engraving but it adds a little bit of the cool factor to the game.
- The larger dowels are great for adults because it makes them easier to throw when the wind is up and I think this makes the game a little faster. When I made a set I used 1.5-inch dowels and it made the game a little more difficult to knock down the blocks and definitely harder to knock down the king.
- The wood is nice and sanded down which gives it a nice feel in the hand and a great finished look.
Cons about the game!
There are also a few cons to consider when purchasing the GoSports Kubb Viking Clash Toss Game. Firstly, the game needs a bit of space to play. We typically do 10’-14’ x 10’ but it depends on what ages are playing. So if you don’t have a huge outdoor space then it can be tricky. But it does play on any surface. We have even played in a parking lot. The good thing about playing on different surfaces is that it changes the dynamics of the game. Here is a breakdown:
- Parking lot: you can get a lot more bounces and rolling of the dowels. Just beware of this because you can get a dowel to your shin and that doesn’t feel great!
- Sand: Playing on the beach is my favorite and mainly because you can’t beat being on a beach. The sand is fun because your dowel can slide along the sand and knock out a block and the surface is easy to set the game up.
- Grass: Grass probably limits the flying dowels the most because it absorbs the impact and doesn’t allow the dowel to fly in crazy directions to get you a knockdown.
Another con of the game is that it can be difficult for little ones. This particular game utilizes bigger dowels than I was used to playing with. They measure about 2 inches in diameter so they are a little heavier and harder to grip for the little guys. But we usually let them take a step closer to the back line when they are throwing so typically not a big deal. The larger dowels I found that I personally liked them because the wind wasn’t much of a factor. The lighter dowels tend to get pushed around in even light wind.
The last con of this set is that we had one dowel start to split. But I will let you know that it even occurred to a set I personally had made and it’s due to the use of cheaper wood. But this does keep costs down so that is good. If you are worried about this happening to your set be sure to protect the wood with a varnish or a sealant to help protect the wood. But things will happen to your set because this isn’t a gentle game and the surface you play on can negatively affect your set!
